Serving the Homeless
St. Anselm’s is humbled by the opportunity to serve the homeless population of our area. The church participates in several initiatives, as we strive to answer Christ’s call for compassion and caring.
St. Anselm’s Church participates in a county-wide program to provide food and shelter for homeless families when the weather turns cold. Families are invited to stay at St. Anselm’s for 2 weeks before moving to another church or facility for stays. We provide home-cooked meals, warm and comfortable places to sleep, and supportive activities for the children. We are honored to be able to be a place of respite for our neighbors, and we are grateful that several families have saved enough money to move into permanent living quarters.
St. Anselm’s Church hosts a fundraiser every year to support the work of the Trinity Center in Walnut Creek. Last year this event raised more than $54,000, with all net proceeds going to their Winter Shelter program providing shelter and food for area homeless, protecting them from the elements for over 4 cold and wet months. You can help by:
1. Attending the event. Tickets typically cost $50 per person. Enjoy games, a good dinner and fund raising events with great live auction items and raffle drawing prizes.
2. Making a tax-deductible gift. Contribute to the event’s matching money challenge fund. This fund will be matched later in this campaign and at the event to double your contribution. Just write a check to St. Anselm’s Church and footnote it “HF Matching”. This can be put in the offering plate or dropped off at the church office.
3. Gift items. We need all kinds of items for the Live Auction, raffle drawing or as game prizes. Contact John Powers after church or email him at email@example.com.
